The legation temporarily closed in July 1812 but reopened in August 1815. In June 1893, the legation changed status to an embassy. In addition to the United States' embassy in London, the United States has three other representations in the United Kingdom. These representations include consulates in Belfast and Edinburgh and a representative office in Cardiff.
